WIRELESS NEWS: EC cries foul on European roaming charges

Daily Wireless News & Updates.- Europe's operators have long seen roaming between countries as a source of big revenue given the fact that pricing competition and market saturation has pushed per-minute pricing down in their home markets. Despite the outcry from mobile-phone customers, operators have not budged on the issue, pushing the European Commission to consider legislation to cap roaming fees. In fact, the average cost per minute in Europe is more than three times the rate in Asia, according to research conducted over the past year by Telecoms Management Group.
